Modeling Reality With Virtual Worlds
I've never thought people would use Vitural World for Business purpose. I feel that's just not serious enough. I have video conferences almost every day at work with people in our other office all over the world, but still, I feel that face to face commuication is better. Maybe I'm a little out-dated, I find it hard to accept that "The company's Enterprise tool will let employees' avatars -- animated alter egos -- meet in virtual worlds" as described in Going to the virtual office in Second Life by Mark Tutton.
Also, I'm not a person who believe in Vitural world. I feel it's just an escape from reality, and it's addictive, it waster you time, energy and money. "About 70,000 Therebucks on There.com, or 10,000 Lindens in Second Life, each about $40, can buy a choice of simulated wares, from several pairs of thigh-high boots to a plot of land" as described on No Budget, No Boundaries: It’s the Real You written by Ruth La Ferla. After all, you still need to face reality. So, I feel it's ok that some people just relax in the bitural world for a little bit, but it's not worth to become a habit.

Social Networking Sites
Twitter is place for fast info. The 140 characters text only Tweet is a little limited function comparing with other social media, but it is the point of differentiation. So, in the fast paced world twitter is a better place for exchanging concises info.
My Space is more for music and gaming, Right now it is kind of outdated, however when it reached the peak in 2005 and 2006, Facebook was not popular yet. It's a very good place to share your music with friends and fans, as you can see front its front page.
Instagram is one of the fastest grow social media featuring mobile photo. Unlike the other three social site, Instagram relies heavily on mobile device that you carry with you and take picture everywhere. It has different effect to make your picture prettier and you can post it right to Facebook, who acquired Instagram recently.

Social Net'g
It is surprised to
know that "Social networking technology is absolutely the best thing to
happen to recruiting — ever." according to "Social Networking
Technology Boosts Job Recruiting" written by Frank Langfitt. Recruiters
must be very happy that it's easy to find talent people nowadays. Besides using
LinkedIn, recruiters also use other channel which provides information about a
company's expanding, merger and acquisition deals, so they can predict the
hiring of that company.
Another area that social site technology is very
useful for me is the customer reviewers. Whenever I want to buy something,
anything, I always look at the reviews of the product online and compare it with
similar product. I feel it's easy to tell if a review is true or not, especially
when there are a lot of reviews. I understand that Kristina Grifantini says in
"Can You Trust Crowd Wisdom" that "if you have two or three
people voting 500 times" that the result won't be very accurate. However, I
feel that there's only a small portion of people doing that. And with
technology, it's easier to limit the number of times a user can vote.
